Like much of the land in the San Fernando Valley, Studio City was originally part of a Rancho granted by Pio Pico and the Mexican Government. In 1927, the original “king of comedy”, Mack Sennett, began building a studio that we now know as CBS Studios, and soon after the surrounding area was dubbed Studio City. The Studio itself innovated film in how it was the first to landscape its lot and allow such backdrops as New York City for later television hits such as Seinfeld.
At 6.31 square miles with only 5,395 people per square mile, Studio City boasts one of the lowest amount of people per square mile of any neighborhood within Los Angeles City.
